John Earle Chance, 83 GALENA, Md. - John Earle Chance, 83, of Galena, died April 21, 2010, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Chance was born on Aug. 29, 1926, in Millington, Md., son of the late William Marion Chance, Sr. and Julia Pauline Burris Chance. As a young boy his family moved to Galena where they operated a farm. He continued farming, raising registered Holsteins, grain and beef. He was a member of the Millington Moose, Kent Co-op Board, ASC County Committee, Holstein-Friesian Assoc. of America and was active with 4-H his entire life. Earle enjoyed hunting, farming, soccer as a young man, and Saturday evenings at Millington V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helen Louise Poore Chance in 2003; and a son-in-law, Jim Enfield. Earle is survived by his three children, Andy Chance and his wife Audrey of Chesterville, Md., Joan Enfield and Amy McGee and her husband Shawn, both of Galena; his companion, Betty Chance; a brother, William M. Chance, Jr. of Millington, Md.; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Usilton, Angel Cornelius, Kari Walters, Christa Conner, Jake Chance, Amanda Simpler, Danny McGee, Erin McGee and Jamey Mullin; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 25, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 26, in Olivet United Methodist Church, S. Main St. Galena, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial in Galena Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, Olivet U.M. Church or the Alzheimer's Assoc. c/o Galena Funeral Home. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com
