John D. Cook

LEWES - John D. Cook, of Lewes, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 76. John was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., the son of the late Doras J. and Rose C. (Bessie) Cook. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, serving from 1952 to 1972. He retired after 15 years as a driver for DART First State. John was a member of St. Peters Church in Lewes. He loved spending time with his daughters, driving a truck, fishing, wrestling with his nephews and giving everyone a hard time. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Cyr and Ruthie Crate. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lorraine Dyer Cook; children, Lisa M. Gipson of Alabama, Rebecca A. Ranft and her husband Bryan, Teresa C. Cook and Regina L. Cook-Gipson, all of Lewes; and seven grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
