MILFORD - John B. "Deputy Dawg" Deputy died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford surrounded by his family. John was born in Milford, the son of the late Herman and Georgia (Shockley) Deputy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Mississinewa. John worked as a supervisor at the Dupont Nylon Plant in Seaford for 37 years before retiring. He was a life member of the Carlisle Fire Company where he was an engineer and also served as the Superintendant of Buildings on the Board of Directors. He was also a Life member of the Milford Elks Lodge #2401 and was recognized as the Elk of the Year for 2001 to 2002, the Harrington Moose Lodge, the Delaware Surf Stabbers and the Delaware Mobile Surf Fisherman. John was an avid surf fisherman and also loved to travel and camp throughout the United States. He is survived by a son, Rick Deputy; and a daughter, Sharon Smith and her husband Steve; his former wife, Doris Deputy, all of Milford; one brother, David Deputy and his wife Susan, of Va; five grandchildren, Kaylie Smith and Matt Smith, Andrew Deputy and Kellie Deputy and Casey Calhoun; two great-granddaughters, Aleigha Deputy and Harper Smith; and his longtime friend, Mimi Currie. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Friends may call on Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. The Elks will hold their memorial service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either the Delaware Veterans Home Fund, c/o Commission of Veterans Affairs, 802 Silver Lake Blvd., Suite 100, Dover, DE 19904 or to the Carlisle Fire Company, P.O. Box 292, Milford, DE 19963.
