Mr. Rose served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II, as a cook. After the war, he worked as a meat cutter for over 50 years. He worked for Hearn Brothers Market in Wilmington for over 40 years, before he moved downstate and was employed at the Dover Food Warehouse for 10 years. Mr. Rose was an active member of the Houston United Methodist Church. He was a member of the choir, and part of the Methodist Men. He also enjoyed going to the weekly meetings of the John T. Harris Prayer Group. Mr. Rose was an avid gardener. He loved to share his produce with his neighbors. He also loved to spend time with his family and being around his grandchildren. They were two time grand champion winners at the Delaware State Fair for their strawberry and pineapple ice cream recipes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn L. Rose; and son, David C. Rose. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ruth A. and Tony Abbate of Milford; daughter-in-law, Ann Waddall and her husband Jay; grandchildren, Michael Abbate, Mark Abbate and his wife Meredith, Kristin Mosier and her husband Joe, Andrew Rose, and Jeremy Rose; great-grandchild, Malori Mosier; and sisters, Charlotte Biddle of Newark and Pearl White of Stuart, Fla.
