LAUREL - John A. Bolden, 80, died Monday, morning, Dec. 6, 2010, at his West 6th Street home in Laurel. John was born in Laurel and was the son of the late Austin and Carrie (Parker) Bolden. He retired after more than twenty-four years with Dover Air Base as an aircraft re-fueler, then spent several years working for Allen's Texaco of Laurel. Upon his retirement, he founded John A. Bolden & Son Trucking and H& J Transportation, both of Laurel. He was a member of St. Matthews First Baptist Church in Laurel where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board, church treasurer and member of the Men's Fellowship. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Bolden of Laurel; five children, Cynthia (Harold) Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Helen (Del) Lloyd of Las Vegas, Nev., Ray (Jacqueline) Greene of Palo Alto, Calif., Keith (Christina) Bolden of Bridgeville, and Robert (Emma) Oney of Seaford; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Diane) Bolden of Dover; two sisters, Ethel Fooks of Laurel, and Catherine Bolden of Wilmington; five godchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. A sister, Evelyn Crockett, preceded him in death. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at St. Matthews First Baptist Church, where friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
