Johanna Pullen

DOVER - Johanna Pullen passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Pullen was born Jan. 18, 1922 in Rotterdam, Netherlands to the late Willem Aart Van Wijlen and Cornelia Metz Van Wijlen.
She was a writer in her heart and had written for the Delaware State News religion page and had been Assistant Circulation Manager for Christianity Today Magazine, Washington DC; there, she was thrilled to attend board meetings with Dr. Billy Graham. Mrs. Pullen had also worked for World Bank as a secretary. She enjoyed studying her Bible and attending sporting and musical events of the grandchildren. Mrs. Pullen attended Faith Community and Grace (Presbyterian) Churches in Dover.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hale C. Patterson in 1970; her second husband, Joseph Pullen; son, Willem Aart Patterson; and three siblings.
She is survived by her son, Lee H. Patterson of Southbend, Ind.; daughters, Texannah Slack (Timothy) of Eugene, Ore. and Jannie Parsons (Edward) of Felton; grandchildren, Heather Linkow, Joshua Tolen, Janna Slack, Emerson Slack, Perry Slack, Jonathan Parsons, Timothy Parsons, Miles Parsons; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Courtland Manor staff for excellent service and care.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
