DOVER - Joel Kelly Crumpley died suddenly on Jan. 14, 2013. Kelly was born in Kansas and was raised in Oklahoma, son of B.K. Crumpley and Gwen (McCann) Crumpley. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.A. degree in Political Science and a J.D. in Law. While there at the University he played varsity Tennis. He practiced law in Oklahoma for several years, and then followed the love of his life, his wife Jan, to Boston, Mass. Kelly and Jan eventually settled in Dover where Kelly served as a Planner with the Kent County government. He was known as a planner with heart and vision. He also served as Vice Chair of the Diamond State Community Land Trust, promoting affordable home ownership opportunities. Kelly's other passion in life was music, and he was an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. Equally at home with many styles of music, including acoustic blues and Celtic music, Kelly was a sought-after guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bodhran, flute and whistle player, and had served as a side man for many recordings and performances. He was a long-time volunteer and member of the Delaware Friends of Folk and was serving as President of the organization. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife Jan; a step-son, Chris Clare; and brothers, Mark and Pat of Norman, Okla., and Rob of Colo. Services will be held 11 a.m on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover where friends may call starting at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum located on N. State Street Ext. and DuPont Hwy. in Dover. Family suggests donations in his memory to the Diamond State Land and Trust, c/o NCALL, 363 Saulsbury Rd., Dover, DE 19904 or to Delaware Friends of Folk, 1040 S. State St. Dover, DE 19901.
