Joanne Naomi Covey passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Joanne was born on December 26, 1942 in Highland Lakes, New Jersey to the late Carolyn Lavere Kearney and John Joseph Kearney. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James Ronald Covey.
Joanne met her husband, Ron, while attending High Point University in North Carolina. After graduation, they moved to Delaware and married in 1965. She worked as a school teacher for the Capital School District for 25 years. In retirement, she spent her time enjoying her passions. She loved gardening and became part of the Potpourri Garden Club of Dover. She also loved creating floral arrangements competitively in National Garden Club events, and traveling the world whenever she could.
Joanne was always the life of a party, a spitfire who loved to dance any chance she had. She truly enjoyed spending time with her friends and just living life to the fullest. She was a bright soul who will be dearly missed by many.
Joanne is survived by daughter, Tara (Luis) Ortiz of Dover; brother, Richard (Lois) Kearney of Cortlandville, New York; and grandchildren, Cody Strehle and Ariana and Alexis Ortiz.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations go to Delaware Hospice.
Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
