McDonough, 90
DOVER, Del. - Joan Theresa McDonough passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, in her home.
She was born November 26, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Dennis Reddy and Margaret Jarvis.
Mrs. McDonough was the Director of Kent County Geriatrics Services for more than 25 years. Prior to helping to establish Geriatrics Services in Kent County, she worked as an RN at the Kent General Hospital. Joan was recognized as one of Kent County's "Women of the Year" in 1976. After her retirement, Joan volunteered for the American Lung Association and was active in her husband Joe's career in Delaware politics. Joan was proud of her parent's New Foundland heritage, which inspired a life-long love of the water. She enjoyed taking rides with her late husband Joe, and later with her children, admiring the countryside and beauty of Delaware Bay and spent many hours admiring the beauty of the Delaware Bay from their weekend home in Kitts Hummuck.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph McDonough; her brothers, James, Charles, and Adrian Reddy; and her sister and best friend, Anita Doolin.
Mrs. McDonough is survived by her children, Anita Wood of Wernersville, Pa., JoAnne Boyer of Earleville, Md., Laura McDonough of Middletown, Del., and Christopher McDonough of Milton, Del.; her brother, Dennis Reddy of Boston, Mass.; her grandchildren, Ryan McDonough, Casey (McDonough) Tabor, Bryan Boyer, Erik Boyer, Brittany (Boyer) Stephens; and great grandchildren, Grace Johnson, Savannah Johnson, and Brock Boyer.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The American Lunch Association.
