HARRINGTON - Jimmie Harden Jr., of Harrington, departed this life on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 73.
He was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Tennell County, Ga., to the late Jimmie and Fanny Lynn Harden.
Jimmie's early education was in the "colored" schools of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged Sept. 20, 1957.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed having a "good time" with his friends and family.
He worked various jobs in his lifetime. Harden Concrete Masonry was his own business that he truly took pride in. As time moved on, he began working for Playtex Products, Inc., in Dover, where he received a certificate of completion in the "Gentle Glide Defect Training" in 2002.
Jimmie truly enjoyed the outdoors. Boating, fishing, bird watching and bird feeding were just a few hobbies that he embraced as long as his health allowed him to do so. On a daily basis, he made sure the birds of West Street Manor were fed. The birds will surely miss their daily meal.
Although he did not attend an organized church, he did believe in God. He read the Bible daily, and watched the Trinity Broadcasting Network along with other religious programs.
Mr. Harden leaves to cherish his memory three children, Jimmy Quail of Felton, Ronnita Quail Fears of Magnolia and Michael Quail of Newark; four grandchildren, Latashia Quail of Dover, Nila and Jaqi, both of Bear, and Kiara, of Felton; one great-grandchild Taniyah Quail-Marker of Dover; a favorite nephew Donnell Cuffee of Magnolia; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held noon Saturday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Delaware Veteran's Cemetery in Bear.
Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
