WILMINGTON - Jeanne Knatz Tigani, of Wilmington, and Longboat Key, Fla., passed away Jan. 1, after a long illness. Jeanne was born on July 5, 1925, in Greenspring Valley, Md., daughter of E. Bolton and Grace Ireland Knatz. As a child, her family moved to Wilmington where she was a 1943 graduate of PS DuPont High School and then attended Goldey Beacom College. She married Eugene M. Tigani in 1948, with whom she raised a family, shared a passion for golf and enjoyed a fifty-six year marriage, until his death in 2004. In the early seventies, Jeanne worked vigorously as part of a committee that campaigned successfully to keep the city of Wilmington from selling Rock Manor Golf Club. Having participated in developing the junior golf program, which had grown to over sixty members, she was concerned the sale would disrupt the program. She ultimately became president of Rock Manor and remained a lifelong enthusiastic supporter of junior golf. She was a member of Wilmington Country Club and Laurel Oak Country Club, Sarasota, Fla., where she played on the women's cup teams. For thirty years, Jeanne served as a volunteer in the emergency room of the Delaware Division and Christiana Hospital. She was also predeceased by her sisters Frances Campion, and Lynn Marsten, both of La Jolla, Calif. She is survived by her sons, E. Mark Tigani and his wife Patti of Smyrna, and Steven D. Tigani and his wife Brenda of Wilmington. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kate, Christopher B., Sean, Mark Patrick and Gina. Jeanne will be remembered for her kindness toward others, her knowledge of the rules of golf and her boundless sense of humor. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville. Interment will follow in the church's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the DSGA Junior Scholarships, 20 West Buckingham Drive, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
