DOVER - Jeanne A. (Moore) Helker, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Kent General Hospital. She was 84. Born Sept. 18, 1926, daughter of the late Anna and George Moore, she spent her childhood in Upper Darby, Pa. After marriage, she moved to Westtown, Pa., and became active in many organizations. In 1964, the family was moved to Dover where she held offices in the Newcomers Club of Dover, Round Table Club of Wyoming-Camden and was active in the Christian Womens Club. Mrs. Helker served as a counselor for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered at Kent General Hospital. Following her husband's retirement, they moved to Milford where Mrs. Helker served as a trustee for First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Womens Association. She also was a member of the Milford Senior Center and volunteered at the Milford Hospital. She and her husband were pioneer partners for the Telephone Pioneers of America. Following Mr. Helker's death in 2003, she moved back to Dover and joined Wesley Methodist Church, volunteered at Bayhealth, Dover and Modern Maturity Center where she was an "original" Steppin' Senior, also a Red Hatter with the "Classic Lassies" most recently, she observed 15 years as an RSVP volunteer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years in 2003, Robert F. Helker; a brother, George Moore in 1989; daughter-in-law, Marie Helker; and granddaughter-in-law, Jocelyn Callahan. She is survived by two sons, George Helker of Lebanon, Ohio, and Edward Helker of Summit Farms; granddaughter, Nicole Kochmor and her husband Ryan of New Castle; grandson, Kevin Callahan of Petersburg, Va., granddaughter, Kerri Callahan of Fairfax, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Ella Callahan of Petersburg, Va. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State St., Dover, DE 19904 or a favorite charity.
