FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Jean Cahall Detweiler of Federalsburg passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, Md. with her family by her side. She was 89. Mrs. Detweiler was born on November 23, 1925 in Federalsburg, she was the daughter of the late Hartman R. and Laura Hackett Cahall. She was a member of the Class of 1942 at Federalsburg High School. On June 17, 1944 she married Robert Sterling Detweiler, from Trumbauersville, PA, who had played baseball in Federalsburg with the Philadelphia Athletics. After 68 wonderful years together, "Ducky" passed away on March 13, 2013. Mrs. Detweiler worked for many years at the Caroline County Public Library, Federalsburg Branch and retired in 1991. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston, Md.; past president and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company since 1949; and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1955, serving as Treasurer of Nanticoke Chapter No. 64 O.E.S. for over 30 years. She became a member of Caroline Chapter No. 62 when Nanticoke No. 64 merged with them in 1998. She was also a founding member of the Federalsburg Historical Society, a member of the Boston Braves Historical Association, a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball Foundation, a member of National Baseball Hall of Fame, and a member of A.A.R.P. No. 915. She is survived by her only daughter, Gina Detweiler McConnell and son-in-law Dufferin R. McConnell of Preston, Md.; two granddaughters, Leslie McConnell Taber and her husband Michael of Virginia Beach, Va. and Molly McConnell Tracy and her husband Patrick of High Point, N.C. She was also survived by three great grandchildren, Daphne Jane Taber and Zachary Dean Taber both of Virginia Beach, Va. and Tatum Sterling Tracy of High Point, N.C. She was preceded in death by her only sister, Betty Cahall Thomas. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 242 Main Street, Preston, Md. with the Pastor Thomas Becker officiating. A visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. The interment will be private. Pallbearers will be Dufferin McConnell, Michael Taber, Patrick Tracy, Richard Wheatley, Norman Bradley, and Rob Wright. Honorary pallbearers are the officers and members of Caroline Chapter No.62 O. E. S. The family suggests memorial donations could be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Parking Lot Fund, P.O. Box 39, Preston, MD 21655; Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Co., Ambulance Fund, P.O.
