Janet 'Marie'
Ferguson, 71
DOVER, Del. - Following a long illness Janet "Marie" Ferguson ended her earthly journey on February 10, 2022, at Silver Lake Nursing Home with her loving daughter at her side.
She was born December 10, 1950 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Clarence D. Hughes and Marjorie Louise Hunter Hughes of Cheswold, Delaware. Marie was a lifelong resident of Kent County and had many lifelong friends. Marie had a lifelong interest in nursing. As a teenager her caring heart led her to volunteer at Kent General Hospital where her mother was a nurse. Her experiences there ignited a passion to become a Registered Nurse. She retired as a Registered Nurse from Kent General Hospital; now Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus.
Marie was an active member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cheswold Delaware where she was in the choir. Her church family was very important to her as were the visits from her pastor to receive communion while she was ill. She also enjoyed researching her native American roots. Her chosen native American name was Wise Whisperer. And, she loved spending time with family.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lawrence Ferguson.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by son, Casey Vinson of Wilmington, Delaware; daughter, Stacey Meek (Brandon) of Camden, Delaware; brother, Gary Hughes (Melanie) of Arlington, Virginia; sister, Beverly Hughes of Chicago, Illinois; and grandchildren, Mackenzie Meek, Savannah Meek, and Krysten Vinson.
Memorial services will be held in person and streamed at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware. Friends may visit an hour prior. Interment will be held 11 a.m., Monday, February 21, 2022, at Immanuel United Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
