Wilkins, 73 MILFORD - Janet A. 'White Owl' Wilkins, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at home. Mrs. Wilkins was born in Avondale, Pa., the daughter of the late Howard Taylor and Catherine Amanda (Mitchell) Taylor. She was a well known, self employed Genanealogist for over thirty years in Delaware and Eastern Shore Maryland. Mrs. Wilkins was a member of The National Society of the First Families of Delmarva. She served as Chapter Regent, Vice-Regent, and Registrar of the Captain Jonathan Caldwell Chapter of the DAR. As a Regent Project for the DAR, Janet took on the responsibility of locating, marking, and preserving the gravesite of Revolutionary War soldier, Nathaniel Hays at Staytonville Cemetery, Sussex County, Del. She was also instrumental in locating the Delaware Supply Tax Records at the Delaware State Public Archives to open doors for many present and future DAR members. Mrs. Wilkins was a member of the Cameo Society of Delaware, as well a member of the Mid Atlantic Cherokee Tribe. She served as Commissioner at the Milford Museum as well as serving on the Board of Directors for Sussex County Friends of the Delaware Public Archives. Her hobbies included hunting, fishing, bottle collecting, metal detecting, and coin collecting. She also collected native artifacts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Wilkins, Sr. She is survived by four children, Herbert Melvin III, Guy Melvin, Eugene Wilkins, Jr. and Cathy Hutson; one sister, Christine Marshetti, a brother, David Minton; and sister-in-law, Sara Tucker; also 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and also her boyfriend of 20 years, George Boney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home Milford, 119 NW Front Street, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood, DE. The graveside services will be conducted by the Mid Atlantic Cherokee Tribe.
