CLAYTON, DE - Jane Marion Borthwick Hurd left this life to be with Jesus on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
Born on June 16, 1937, she was the daughter of James and Mary Borthwick of Blackbird. Jane was born in Maine, moving to Blackbird when she was nine years old.
Jane was a homemaker and seamstress, doing alterations and making everyday clothes, prom gowns, and dresses for wedding parties for people in the community. She served as a 4-H project leader for a decade.
Jane was a member of Townsend Free Will Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, participated in the Secret Sister program mentoring girls at church, made meals for friends and neighbors to provide encouragement, and held Bible studies for friends in her home. She was a loving mother, doting grandmother, and loving friend.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Hurd, Jr. of 62 years; brother, James Borthwick; and parents.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Staats of Federalsburg, MD; brother, John G. Borthwick of Blackbird; along with her five children, Brenda Ebling of Townsend, Donna Hite of Bushnell, Fla., Mary Hurd of Magnolia, Bonnie Hurd of Morganton, N.C., and E.J.
