Jane I. Melvin, 82 HARRINGTON - Jane I. Melvin, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010. She was 82. Jane was born in Lewes, to the late John Carpenter and Blanche Carpenter-Mitchell. Mrs. Melvin worked at the Laytex and Playtex companies, the Dress Factory in Harrington, and also as a homemaker. She always kept a tidy home and loved to cook and clean. She was known to move her furniture all around quite frequently. She loved sitting on the porch looking at the garden and fish pond that her late husband built for her in their back yard. Visits from her family, especially her grandchildren, always made her the most happy and she looked forward to their visits. She was a member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church, and also attended the Asbury Methodist Church, and the Harrington Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Melvin Jr.; son, J. Wayne Melvin; brothers, Jack, Bobby, and Harry Carpenter; and sisters, Donia Dodd and Pauline Pepper. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy F. and Emerson Brooks of Jay, Maine, and Rhonda L. and Kim Hitchens of Harrington; sister, Regenia Brown of Harrington; grandchildren, Jennifer Workman, Kristal Lloyd, Amanda Landrey, Joey Melvin, Jordan McCloskey, and Zachery Melvin; and nine great-grandchildren.
