James William Keener, 75 DOVER - James William Keener, 75, died on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, in his home after a long illness. Jim was born in Montgomery, Alab., on March 25, 1934, to Edgar Clayton Keener and Willine Alice (Palmer) Keener. He had a long work career beginning with joining the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He then served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Major. He retired from the Social Security Administration in 1992. Then he worked for the Delaware Department of Justice until he received a medical retirement in 2005. His favorite hobbies were spending money, computering, reading, and eating and gabbing at Hollywood Diner, only not necessarily in that order. He was preceded in death by his father in 1980 and his mother in 1992. Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, J. Charlene (Hjort) Keener; sons, David (Sally) and Steve (Sandy) and their daughter Bailey, all of Ashburn, Va.; his sister, Eleanor (Keener) McWhinnie of Wetumpka, Ala.; and his sister-in-law, Anita C. (Turcotte) Hjort of New Sharon, Maine. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial with full military honors will follow at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a charity of choice. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
