DOVER - James R. Harrison Sr., of Dover, formerly of Camden-Wyoming, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, in Silver Lake Center, Dover. He was 95. He was born on Dec. 25, 1912, in Leon, Md., the oldest and last surviving of seven children of the late Wm. Preston and Grace (Smith) Harrison. James was an Eagle Scout, and graduated with the Annapolis High School, Class of 1930. James entered the military in July 1942, serving his country proudly in the United States Army Air Force as a control tower operator. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and was discharged in 1952. His varied occupations included farming, both in Annapolis and at his farm west of Wyoming, driving a truck for the SanDel Packing Company of Sandtown, and as an attaché for the Delaware Senate. James was an avid reader, particularly of history, enjoyed fishing, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a charter member of the Willow Run Ruritan Club and a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Marydel, Md. James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Johnson) Harrison; four children, Janice Butterworth and her husband Don of Glen Mills, Pa., James Harrison Jr. and his wife Lynn of Kenton, Patricia Jones and her husband Glenn of Felton, and John Harrison and his wife Carol of Carney's Point, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Betty Harrison of Leonardtown, Md.; six grandchildren, Amy Butterworth-Smiley and her husband Doug, Andrew Butterworth, Jeffrey Butterworth, Benjamin Jones, Michael Jones and John W. Harrison. In addition to his immediate family he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and an extended church family and friends. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the caregivers and friends at the Silver Lake Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier. A private committal will be held for the immediate family at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. The family welcomes either flowers or memorial contributions to Delaware 4-H Foundation, University of Delaware, 120 Townsend Hall, Newark, DE 19717.
