James (Jim) Peter Horan, Jr. passed peacefully among his loved ones on January 22, 2023, in Dover, Delaware.
Born January 12, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late James Peter Horan, Sr. and Sara Edna Horan (nee Smith). Upon graduation from Germantown High School he served 20 years as an aviation electrician in the United States Navy. He retired honorably as a senior chief petty officer in 1979. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he was employed as a general sales manager for Janbridge Inc. for 16 years. After leaving Janbridge he worked with inmates in the Philadelphia correctional system as a vocational instructor. He was recognized for his work with inmates as the Employee of the Year in 2001.
Upon final retirement, he provided pro-bono tax consulting for low-income seniors. He was also an avid traveler enjoying many cruises with his devoted wife of 35 years, Ruth Horan (nee Gibbons) and children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved spouse, Ruth; he is survived by his children, Peg (Mark), Jim (Abby), and Ted (Alice); stepchildren, Tony (Holly) and Nick; grandchildren, Kelly, Caitlin, Meg, Michael, and Skye; great grandsons, Ridgely and George; and furbaby, Lucy.
A celebration of life will be held 11 am, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association (www.lung.org), St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), and Faithful Friends Animal Society (faithfulfriends.us).
