James Owen Blythe, MD passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, surrounded by family. James was born in Dover, Delaware to Ila Joyce and James Theodore Blythe.
Jim was raised in Hartly, Delaware and graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1990. He attended Elizabethtown College and went to medical school at Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1998. He completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts, in Worcester, MA and began working at Bayhealth in 2001. In 2017, he left Bayhealth and began working at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Chestertown, MD. Jim was a member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company since 1992.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Theodore Blythe.
Jim is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jaime; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) of Hartly, DE; and mother, Ila Joyce of Dover, DE; aunt, Rose Ann Smith; father-in-law, John Morris of Harrington; adopted family, Royce and Kiley Purcell and their children, Kayla Kriner-Purcell, Royce Purcell 3rd and his wife Megan of Houston, DE. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover. A visitation will be held from 6-7pm.
For those unable to attend the service, there will be a livestream on the Torbert Funeral Chapels website. It can be found under the "Upcoming Livestream" tab and viewed by clicking on his name.
