FEDERALSBURG, Md. - James (Jimmie) Marshall Townsend passed away on Jul. 6, 2017, in Easton, Md., from complications of lung disease. Jimmie was born on Jul. 13, 1953 - the only son of parents Theodore (Ted) Townsend and Cornelia (Kinney) Pierce Townsend. Over the years, Jimmie worked at the family-owned business -- The Milford Chronicle.
Jimmie grew up in Milford on School Place and attended schools in the Milford School District. He was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church.
Jimmie served in the United States Navy and spent time in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. His most recent career was as a supervisor for the State of Maryland Agriculture Department.
Jimmie enjoyed spending time in Federalsburg, Md., with his family swimming in their pool, sailing on various Delaware and Maryland bays and treasure hunting at flea markets for unique antiques. His love of home and family were his greatest pride and joy. He also had many wonderful childhood friends in Milford that gathered together to support him through his illness.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Helen Staats Townsend; sons, Ean and James Staats (Chelsea and precious granddaughter Daisy Mae); his sisters, Marsha Townsend Schmitz, Fenwick Island, Elizabeth (Betsy) Townsend Robinson, Gig Harbor, Wash.; nieces, Joann Abraham, Waterloo, Ind., Emily Pierce Robinson and her son Taylor William Robinson, Gig Harbor, Wash.; and nephew, Thomas W. Robbins, Rehoboth Beach. His sister, Cornelia (Connie) Townsend Ritzmann, Venice, Fla., preceded him in death in Mar. 2016.
Our family and dear friends grieve Jim's absence in our lives. He was dearly loved by so many and we take great comfort knowing he is now in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. We miss his wit and humor and especially his amazing ability to remember dates and family history milestones.
A memorial service has not yet been scheduled.
