DOVER - James Madison Meredith, of Dover, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Kent General Hospital. He was 70. He was born April 8, 1941, in Cecil, Md., to the late Daniel Franklin Meredith and Norma Elizabeth Branan. Jim had worked as a mechanic for Good Child's Salvage prior to that he had worked for the State of Delaware as a truck driver before owning his own towing service. Jim enjoyed gardening, restoring furniture, wood working and was willing to help friend, family and neighbors and easily made friends. He is survived by his wife of 2 years, Marie Theresa St. John Meredith of Dover; daughter, Tina Meredith; stepchildren, Tammy Clark and her husband Joey of Dover, Kerry Mixon of Waycross, Ga., Sherry Steele and her husband Paul Embert of Dover; sister, Violet Grant; niece, Victoria Smith; and nephew, Jefferson Grant; grandchildren, Christopher Altman, Amanda McDuffie, Joseph Clark III, Cassandra Mampton, Todd and Zack Zehner, Chayce, Cody, and Brittany Steele, Courtney and Dustin Mixon; seven great-grandchildren; four very best friends, Bob Phillips, Sr., Berry Dilling, Jack Verdon, and Frank Soto; and his beloved cat, Lucky. Memorial gathering will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. In lieu flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904, to help defray funeral costs. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
