James L. Mitchell Jr., 80 SMYRNA - James L. Mitchell Jr., of Smyrna, died Saturday May 8, 2010, at Silver Lake Center in loving care of staff and family at the age of 80. He was preceded in death in 2005 by the love of his life Corinne J. Mitchell after 58 years of marriage. Mr. Mitchell was the son of the late James L. Mitchell Sr. and Edith E. Mitchell. He was a farmer for many years before becoming a member of the Teamsters #326 where he was a mechanic for Anchor Motor Freight from which he retired. He was a member of the Lebanon Wesleyan Church and the American Quarter Horse Association and continued to enjoy his horse throughout his declining health. He is survived by his two daughters, Connie Lee O'Neal of Grandy, N.C., and Wanda J. and husband Marvin Shorter of Seaford; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Michael and wife Jennifer Shorter of Bear, with Cole, Aiden and Leah, Jessica and husband Colin Macdonald, of Port Washington, N.Y. with Abigail, and Emily and husband David Williams of Seaford, with Bruin. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers-in-law, Marion and Joe Kawulok of Tucson, Ariz., and William Lewis of Smyrna, and a sister-in-law, Ann Mitchell of Smyrna. He has been lovingly attended and cared for by his brothers and sister, Sammy and Diane Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell and companion Emma Snyder, Ruth Lewis and friend Henry Tiemann, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, May 13, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. To send a condolence, visit www.delmarvaobits.com.
