Princess Anne - James L. Hinman, Jr., a cherished member of the community, passed away at his home in Princess Anne on April 23, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on March 27, 1954 in Salisbury, he was the beloved son of the late James Lee Hinman, Sr. and Edna Erlene Midgett Hinman.
Jimmy, as he was affectionately known, was raised in Princess Anne and educated in the Somerset County School System until grade 10, later graduating from Staunton Military Academy in 1973. He pursued higher education with great dedication, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the former Salisbury State College in 1979 and an Associate of Arts Degree in Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1982.
His commitment to service was exemplified during his time in the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably attained the rank of Corporal before his discharge in 1980.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Jimmy dedicated his professional life to the family business, Hinman Funeral Home, which was founded in 1958 by his parents. He served as a licensed funeral director for 42 years, providing comfort and care to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds; he was always willing to lend a helping hand and would give anyone the shirt off his back.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Jimmy was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church, the Oliver T. Beauchamp American Legion Post #94, the Somerset Ruritan Club, the Princess Anne Lions Club, the Manokin Masonic Lodge #106 AF&AM, and the Wicomico Yacht Club.
He loved to read, enjoyed woodworking, and the simple pleasures of life. Jimmy cherished the time spent with his family and friends and his loyal companion, his dog “Jax.”
His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Amber Edgar and husband Guy of Cambridge and Ali Denston and husband Eric of Pocomoke; his grandchildren, Hudson Edgar, Brandon Wagner, Scotty Ennis and wife Hannah, Kayleigh Denston, Harper Denston, and Addy Denston; his sister, Carolyn Aurelio and husband Jimmy of Salisbury; his best friends and classmates, Kirk Simpkins and Ricky Russell, both of Princess Anne; several cousins; and many, many close friends.
He is also survived by his Hinman Funeral Home family, Cindy Hastings, Bernie Blair, Bruce Mason, Brian Laird, and William McInturff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Michael “Jamie” Hinman on January 24, 2021; and his daughter, Theresa Ennis on October 16, 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1 PM at Hinman Funeral Home where a viewing will be from 10 AM until service time at 1 PM. The Rev. Dean DeFino will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Beechwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jimmy to Antioch U. M. Church, P.O. Box 297, Princess Anne, MD 21853.
