Adkins, Jr., 77 James Howard Adkins, Jr., age 77, of Lewes, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his home. He was born in Lewes, on June 17, 1936 son of the late James H. and Florence (Hammond) Adkins, Sr. Howard was a carpenter first working for Marvin Ingram and then for the Stockley Center in Georgetown, for 16 years, retiring in 1997. After his retirement from the State of Delaware, he owned and operated his own grass cutting business. Howard was a Life member of the Lewes Volunteer Fire Company with 38 years of service. He enjoyed clamming, woodworking and riding his tractor. Howard will always be in the hearts of his family and never forgotten. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce (Phillips) Adkins; a daughter, Annette Allman; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Allman and Jacqueline Allman; two great grandchildren, Cohen Bonneville and Damian Jewell; and a sister, Carolyn Quigley. A celebration of his life with firefighter honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
