James H. Porter (Jim) passed away on May 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on September 16, 1936, in Ridgely, Maryland to the late Clayton and Ruth Porter. He was the youngest of three children.
Growing up in Greensboro, Maryland, he attended Greensboro school. Jim played many sports in high school. He was a star athlete making the Eastern Shore local newspapers, especially for basketball and baseball.
Upon graduation, he entered the Navy. He then attended Goldey Beacom college obtaining an
associate's degree on a G.I. Bill. He married Columbia LePore, the love of his life, on January 20, 1957.
After graduating from Goldey Beacom he worked briefly for the Dover Air Force Base.
He then began his career with International Playtex retiring after 38 years.
Through his years on earth, Jim played and coached many sports. He was an avid golfer and loved all things fishing. He coached the Playtex ladies basketball team and boys Pop Warner football teams.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Columbia L. Porter, two daughters,
Debbie Bland and Beth Hohman; 4 grandsons, Eric Bland, Kyle Bland, Christopher Yun and Daniel Yun; 3 great grandchildren, Adrien, Sophia and Eli Yun.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as two brothers, Francis and Robert Porter.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 12-2pm at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, DE 19901
