DOVER - James F. Phillips of Dover passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 at home. He was 81. Jim was born December 19, 1933 in Upland, Pennsylvania to the late Charles S. Phillips and Katherine E. Lythgoe Phillips. He graduated from Chester High School, Chester, Pa. in 1951. Jim served in the United States Navy. He worked as an instrument technician at Sun Olin Chemical Company for 25 years and a maintenance foreman for 5 years before retiring Sun Oil Refinery, Marcus Hook, Pa. in 1990. Jim enjoyed reading, traveling, volunteering at Christiana Hospital in the Pacu and Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing for homeless men. He was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church of Dover. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons, James N. and Douglas "Chuck" Phillips; brother, Raymond E. Phillips; and sisters, Joyce E. Gatta and Edna E. Ellsworth. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Colhoun Phillips of Dover; daughter in law, Leona M. Phillips; siblings, Richard P. Phillips, Katharine P. Wood and Sara J. Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews, including an exceptional niece, Kathy Amalfitano and her very special children, Kaitlin and Paul. Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be private at Lawncroft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, PO Box 1374, Dover, DE 19903.
