James E. Hutson, 86 HARRINGTON - James E. Hutson, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009. He was 86. He was born at Masten's Corner, the son of James and Gertrude R. Hutson. Mr. Hutson was a Staff Sgt. in World War II, serving in Africa, Italy, and France. He received combat wounds at Anzio and in France, earning him the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Presidential Citation. Upon discharge from the Army, he became a self-employed trucker, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed going to auctions, collecting antique lamps, and had a love for animals. He was a member of the Greenwood VFW Post 7478, Purple Heart Unit 1787, Disabled American Veterans, Harrington Moose Charter Member, and a friend of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Freda Ward; and a brother, Ralph Poore. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Smith Hutson; three sisters, Elma Voshell of Dover, Pauline Gibbs of Felton, and Grace Voshell of Dover; a sister-in-law, Viva Poore of Harrington; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the local SPCA, the Asbury U.M. Church, Harrington, or a charity of your choice.
