DOVER - James C. England, of Dover, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.

James was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Oakland, Calif., son of the late John and Esther (Petterson) England.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, retiring as master sergeant.

James worked as a mechanic foreman for Playtex for 16 years.

He always put his family first and enjoyed gardening.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51½ years, Mary England, on July 13, 2007; and his daughter, Stephanie England, on May 17, 2001.

He is survived by his children, Judy Mills and her husband Mitch, of Virginia Beach, Va., Paula Cassidy and her husband Joseph of Camden, James M. England of Harrington, Tamara Vicere and her husband Perry of Dover and Barbara Ascarino of Taylors, S.C.; two brothers, Tom England and his wife Marge of California and William England of Ohio; 15 grandchildren, Trey Martin, Erin Ridgeway, Joshua Brimer, Jeremy Cancelo, Marisa Vicere, Tony Vicere, C.J. Ascarino, Amber Ascarino, John Ascarino, Melinda Mills, Joseph Mills, Timothy Mills, Julian Vicere, Marie Cassidy and Jacqueline Daub; and four great-grandchildren.

A service of family sharing and remembrances will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour before the services.

Burial with full military honors will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 100 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
