Jim was born on March 12, 1936 in Milford, son of the late Winfred C. and Laura (Stubbs) Gooden. Mr. Gooden was self-employed as an owner operator, along with his wife Lora, of Gooden's Floral Shop in Milford for 30 years before his illness. Lora has continued to run the daily operations of the family business in her husband's absence with the pride and quality that customers have grown to rely on for many years. Jim had a great compassion for cars, especially drag racing and building and repairing engines, from where he earned the title "The Carburetor Man". He was a member and past master of the Masonic Temple Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M. in Milford, a member of York Rite, Nur Shrine and Nur Shrine Mini Corvettes, and a past member of the Milford Lions Club, the Milford Kiwanis Club and the National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lora A. Gooden of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Kelly Gooden and Jackson Powell Gooden and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 19, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior. A Masonic Service will start at 11:45 a.m. Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street. Letters of condolence may be emailed at www.delmarvaobits.com/rogers
