Jack C. Coughlan

DOVER - Jack C. Coughlan, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Westminster Village. He was 89. Mr. Coughlan was born Feb. 25, 1921, in Berkely Springs, W.Va., to the late Dr. John S. Coughlan and Mary A. Gootee Coughlan. He served in the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) during WWII, where he was a tail gunner on a B17 in the 8th Air Force stationed in England. He was employed by Pitney-Bowes, Inc. for more than 35 years as a Customer Engineer. Mr. Coughlan was a past Master of Armstrong Lodge #26 AF & AM in Newport, and other Masonic organizations. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover. Mr. Coughlan enjoyed boating. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Thomas H. Coughlan; sisters, Margaret Brown, Ruth Spitzer, and Kathryn Engel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Ruark Coughlan of Dover; sister, Anna Jane Keely of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in the Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State Street, Dover. Interment will be in Gracelawn Cemetery, New Castle at 2 p.m. Family requests no flowers but memorial contributions be made to Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. The family would also like to thank the Seasons Hospice nurses - Barbara Willmore and Nicole Pitts - for their excellent care of Jack during these last days.
