Irene S. Hickman of Dover, DE passed away, Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Country Rest Home in Greenwood, DE.
Mrs. Hickman was born March 22, 1936, in Wyoming, Delaware, to the late Harry Biddle Sr. and Elizabeth Dill Biddle. She grew up in Kent County, DE and Caroline County, MD. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1954.
She worked at Delaware Department of Transportation as the executive secretary for the Secretary of Transportation. She retired in 1996 after 41 years of service. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, watching every Phillies game, and doting on her beloved dogs. She especially loved Christmas and decorating her home for the holidays
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Hickman, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristi Hamilton of Magnolia, step-son, Donald Hickman, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Georgetown; step-daughter, Brenda DeLong of Milford; grandson, Riley Hamilton, step-grandchildren Donald Hickman, III and his wife Lauren, Jason Hickman, Karen Timmons, Lisa Reynolds and her husband Mike, and Brian Timmons and his wife Elsa. In addition, she is survived by 8 stepgreat-grandchildren and 6 step-great-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1PM, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover, DE 19901. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment will be in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to First State Animal Shelter and SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
