Irene Katherine Denham passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2025. Irene lived a long, happy life, but unfortunately succumbed to complications from a major stroke. Born in Mahanoy City, PA, she spent most of her life in Dover, Delaware.
She was predeceased by her husband of almost 25 years Edgar Boyd Denham, and her son Tom McNiff.
She is survived by her brother Tom Thatcher of Pennsylvania, her daughters Michele McCabe (and husband Russ McCabe) and Melissa McNiff Hulbert. Irene was also a loving stepmother to Eddie Denham (and wife Lynn); Kevin Denham; Barry Denham; Mike Denham (and his partner Sharon); Michele Martel (and her husband Karl); and Maureen Debone (and her husband Don). She was also "Mom-Mom" to 7 grandchildren: Josiah McCabe (and his partner Chrissy); Coulter McCabe (and his wife Gracie); Jamison and Jonas Hulbert; Michele Scott; and Anne Marie and Matthew Debone. Irene was also great "Mom-Mom" to Elijah, Adrian, and Josiah McCabe.
Irene found her soulmate later in life and married Ed Denham in 1986. The families knew one another long before Ed and Irene's union and they took great pride and pleasure in nurturing the blended family they created. In addition to traveling and spoiling their kids and grandkids, they enjoyed many memorable days at their home in Dover and their vacation spots at the beach. Irene was quite the beach bunny in her day.
Irene had a long career in retail to help support the family and after her husband's passing she moved to Longacre Village where she enjoyed the company of new and old friends. The family would like to offer deep gratitude to those that helped support "Rene" as her needs evolved with age.
A burial service will be held on May 10, 2025 at 12:00 at Sharon Hills Memorial Park at 2928 Sharon Hill Road in Dover, DE. The family will be receiving condolences from 1:00-4:00 at the Dover Elks Lodge.
