Bayhealth Constables Jose Mendez, right, and Peter Uhey were recently rewarded for their efforts by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety. Mr. Mendez received the Medal of Merit Award while Mr. Uhey earned the 2017 Russell F. Jones Scholarship. The Medal of Merit is presented to individuals who distinguish themselves in the performance of duty and going above and beyond the call of duty, even if it means putting one’s life at risk. Mr. Mendez was nominated for the award following an encounter with a patient in the Emergency Department. Mr. Uhey is in the process of completing his associate’s degree in criminal justice, which is why he applied for the Russell F. Jones Scholarship.
