VIOLA - Ida Roland, 89, of Viola died, Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, from a brain tumor. She was the daughter of the late Wilson Holden and Ethel Darling Holden. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Smith Roland, who died Oct. 6, 2004. They were married Nov. 14, 1942. Her brother, Marshall Holden also preceded her in death. Mrs. Roland worked at the Dress Factory in Harrington for many years and also worked for Civil Service Civilian Pay for 21 years before retiring. She graduated from Harrington High School and attended Goldey Beacon College studying in music. She was a member of the VCF Viola Ruritanettes and enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and baking and decorating cakes. She is survived by her two children, Ray Roland, of Viola, and Eleanor F. Brown and her husband Dale of Pleaston, Calif.; two grandchildren, Courtney Rubin and her husband Dustin and Kimberly Brown; and one sister, Mabel Woikoski of Felton. Funeral services will be Friday, June 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, where friends may call for a viewing Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Downham Cemetery, in Viola.
