I hope that you will vote with the mayor, and against the density issue that has been ‘front and center’ for the last few months. You have heard a lot of testimony, including the City’s own Department of Infrastructure and Development, as to why this project is not a good fit for the City of Salisbury. As one citizen said at one of your Council meetings, once you build something like this, there is no going back. At the very least, you should wait until the parking study has been completed, to learn if there are other alternatives that could be considered.
Parking is a huge issue, and needs serious consideration. Again, once lost….it can’t be recovered.
I believe, that in your ‘heart of hearts’ you know that this project is NOT good for Salisbury. Your conscience should be your guide…..and I do believe that you KNOW that this project should NOT go forward.
What with the hospital building a housing project right across the river, and the University building a Performing Arts Center, if the density project goes through, it will be ‘Building-henge’ downtown….all buildings, but no reason for people to visit Salisbury. And Salisbury will certainly lose it’s ‘small town’ feel. What Salisbury needs, and you should be advocating for, is more businesses, shopping, museums, and galleries, to name a few of the things this town needs to thrive, and attract those ‘boots on the ground’ that the current shop owners are so hoping to attract. Unless there is parking, those ‘boots’ can’t very well be walking around town.
Listen to your conscience, and vote AGAINST this project. It is NOT a good fit for Salisbury.
