Howard F. Granger, 83

MILFORD - Howard F. Granger, of Milford, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center. He was 83. Mr. Granger was born in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Edward and Jeannette Granger. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and fought in World War II where he was shot in battle in Italy for which he received both the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor. After the war, he worked as a truck driver for many years. He loved to fly and actually built his own airplane that he was able to fly. He also enjoyed boating and one of his passions was to take old wooden boats and restore them to pristine condition. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy M. Granger in 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Joycelyn Granger of Baltimore, Md., and Beverly Trader, of Milford; a son, Howard Granger Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Heather Christ and Jeannie Morales, of Baltimore, Md., Tiffany Trader, Brandon Trader and Katie Trader, all of Milford; six great-grandchildren, Lauren McGee, Matthew Salendene, Jordan Castranda, Brooke Salendene, Nicholas Salendene and Jose Morales; two brothers, Timmy Granger of Florida, and Sonny Granger of Pennsylvania; and four sisters, Blanche Petty and Barbara Green, both of Pennsylvania and Dot King and Pat Lough, both of Baltimore, Md. Memorial services were held on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford.
