How has shopping for school supplies changed?

Posted

It’s that time of year again: school supply season. Have you begun hunting for your children’s needs? What do their lists look like for 2025-26? Has the quantity of supplies — or the amount you’re spending — increased or decreased? What peculiar items have you been asked to purchase?

  • I think I saw a bus tire on the list! — Susan Twining Brittingham
  • Sales should be decreasing, not because of prices but because of the lack of supplies needed. Ever since the COVID-19 lockdown, schools have switched to more technology usage. And so, the kids are using less paper, binders, etc. I was still going by school lists last year, and both kids returned half the supplies to me by November because they did not need any of them. When school was over in June, I got even more unused items back. I still have many unused supplies from past years that probably will not be needed. — Tiffany Rumbley
  • It’s sad that your school didn’t put out a list of what won’t be needed. We aren’t like the districts, with money to burn. If you had known, you wouldn’t have bought the supplies, or you could have returned the items if they had come home sooner. No communication! But they want us to vote for their referenda. — Danree Heath
  • Well, I remember being the one who needed the supplies, and now, I’m the one who has to supply the supplies. — Kyle Hendrix
