The Salisbury Police Department’s third annual Hero’s’ Challenge to Benefit Special Olympics is set for Saturday, daring 10-person teams to pull a fire truck 50 feet in the least amount of time.

Entry fee for each team is $250 and the public is invited to join in the competition. Medals and an overall trophy will be awarded to winners. Call 410-548-3113.

Registration starts at 11 a.m. and the event will be at noon. Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“It’s a city police-organized event. These teams pull one of our massive fire trucks by hand. They pull this massive thing,” Mayor Jake Day said.

“It’s an interesting thing. I participated two years ago. It’s heavy but you can do it,” he said.

Craft beers will be for sale for $5 per pint.

A disc jockey will play music and there will be food trucks including those from Mother's Cantina, MayaBella's Pizzeria and East Town Eats. Children and pets are welcome.

“It brings a huge crowd and people really look forward to it,” Day said.

“This year it’s going to be an even bigger event because its partnering with the Shore Craft Beerfest, so it will be a craft beer festival combined with the truck pull,” Day said.
