TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama reserve defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been dismissed from the team in the wake of allegations he threatened a police officer who was involved in a previous arrest of Kirkpatrick in 2025. Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday on misdemeanor charges of doxing and harassing communications with police. He was suspended for Alabama's victory over Texas A&M on Saturday before Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer released a statement saying Kirkpatrick was no longer part of the team and had not lived up to the standards and expectations set for Alabama players. Kirkpatrick missed much of last season while suspended for his prior arrest. He rejoined the team in the spring and played in seven games this season.
UNDATED (AP) — All-American running back Ahmad Hardy has started practicing with No. 23 Missouri, just months after being wounded in a shooting in Mississippi. Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said Tuesday that Hardy was a full participant in practice the previous day. However, it's unclear when Hardy will play for the Tigers. In early May, Hardy was shot in the leg as a bystander at a concert. The Tigers have managed without him, thanks to Jamal Roberts, who ranks seventh in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 867 yards rushing. Missouri was off last week and faces Arkansas on Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) — Lawyers for RJ Luis Jr. are asking a Louisiana judge to block the Southeastern Conference from punishing LSU if Luis is added to the Tigers’ roster. The request comes in a petition filed Tuesday in state district court in East Baton Rouge Parish. That's where Judge Ronald R. Johnson in late August granted a similar preliminary injunction against the NCAA. Luis was briefly under contract with two NBA teams in 2025 but never played in a game. The SEC has previously accused LSU of showing an “ongoing defiance of the conference’s professionalism rules” by trying to play Luis.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the season because of a foot injury that requires surgery. Taylor was one of the best players in the country during the first month of the season but injured a toe on Sept. 26 in a win over Missouri and couldn’t get back to full health. The school says he is expected to make a full recovery. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound sophomore threw for 1,460 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions over six games.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — No. 17 Florida could have quarterback Aaron Philo back for Saturday’s game against third-ranked Georgia in Atlanta. Philo sat out a victory at then-No. 7 Texas on Oct. 17 because of an injured throwing shoulder. He practiced Monday and split first-team repetitions with backup Tramell Jones Jr. Coach Jon Sumrall says he will wait to see how both QBs get through the first few days of practice this week before making a decision. Philo injured his right shoulder while getting tackled late in a home loss to South Carolina on Oct. 10. He made the trip to Austin, Texas, and served as the team’s emergency quarterback.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi coach Pete Golding says running back Kewan Lacy will miss this week’s game against Auburn after dislocating his shoulder in the third quarter against Texas. Recurring left shoulder injuries have troubled the preseason All-America selection, who rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns during the 2025 season. A separate shoulder injury during a victory over LSU followed a lower leg injury in the season-opening win over Louisville. Lacy was sidelined against Florida before an open date and a seven-carry performance at Vanderbilt. Lacy had a season-high 122 yards in a victory over Missouri before the injury against the Longhorns.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The NCAA has decided against penalizing Mississippi basketball coach Chris Beard. As a result, his program faces no further penalties related to an infractions case involving a former assistant coach who was deemed to have committed tampering violations. The NCAA says Beard “was not personally involved in the violations, was not aware of the impermissible contact and promoted an atmosphere for compliance.” The NCAA found that former assistant Wes Flanigan had “impermissible recruiting conversations with the advisor of a student-athlete from another school who had not entered the transfer portal.” The player never visited Ole Miss and wound up at another school.
UNDATED (AP) — Ten small four-year colleges and universities started or restarted football programs this season. The National Football Foundation says that's the most in a single year since 2013. Seven schools have announced plans to start programs in 2027 or later. Administrators say adding football is a way to increase lagging enrollment and create a more vibrant campus life. A 2024 University of Georgia study found schools that add football generally haven't had sustained enrollment growth compared to non-football schools. Researcher Welch Suggs says adding football is a last-ditch effort to keep a school's doors open.
