Herbert L. Munday

MILFORD - Herbert L. Munday, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. Herbert was born in Alexandria, Virginia on November 28, 1925, son of the late Herbert L. Munday, Sr. and Lois Baber Munday. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving his country during World War II. Mr. Munday was the Treasurer of Washington Gas Company in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1986 after 38 years with the company. Herb was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Alexandria where he served as a Deacon. After moving to Milford, he and his wife have been members of the Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Milford Senior Center. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Lodge, and had served on the Board of the YMCA, all in Alexandria. Herb is survived by his wife, C. Jackie Munday; two sons, Herbert L. Munday, III of Milford, and Mark S. Munday and his wife Michele of Felton; three grandchildren, Les Munday of Milford, Marcus Munday of Felton, and Ashley Munday of Milford; three great grandchildren, Taylor, Austin and Calista Munday of Milford; a stepson, Dennis G. Reed, Jr. and his wife Victoria of Wilmington, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Pamela Thompson and her husband William of Jacksonville, Fla., and Deborah Smith and her husband Vick of Bald Head Island, N.C.; two step grandsons, Trey and Jack Reed of Wilmington, N.C.; his former wife, Beverly H. Munday of Milford; and several nieces and nephews in Ocean City, Md. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. A private interment with military honors will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, DE, 19963.
