SMYRNA - Herbert A. (Herbie) Ouseley, of Smyrna, died on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, peacefully at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 94. Mr. Ouseley was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Wilmington, the son of the late William and Mary Ouseley. Herbie served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II. He retired on disability as a Lieutenant after 28 years of service as a Washington D.C. Firefighter. During his career, he was assigned to Special White House Duty for 5 years. After he retired, he worked for a short time at Delaware Trust in Smyrna. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and he loved fishing and gardening. Also, Herbie volunteered for many years at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth, Rebecca, and May. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Evelyn I. Ouseley; a sister, Beryl Bennett of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Anna Marion of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews, Claire, Jan and Vic, Bob and Joanne, Dennis and Nancy, David and Joyce, and Jeff and Karen; and several extended family members, including his special great niece, Suzanne and Travis. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Townsend Fire Company, PO Box 194, Townsend, DE 19734. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
