Harry Rouse Beck Jr. DOVER - Harry Rouse Beck Jr., of Dover, died the evening of Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the age of 84 years old. He passed away at Delaware Hospice in Milford of complications resulting from lung cancer. He was born April 24, 1925, in Hickman, Delaware, the only son of Minerva and Harry Rouse Beck Sr. He was a graduate of Smyrna High School and Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla. He was enlisted in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. As a younger man he developed a great interest in sports car racing and won many races including a class victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring. He was self employed as an auto mechanic for most of his career but also taught automotive repair at both Kent and Woodside Vo-Tech High Schools where he retired. He was also an avid glider pilot and fisherman, spending a large portion of his retired years fishing with his sons. He is survived by his three sons, Jeff Beck and his wife Amy Roberson of Melbourne Fla., Jonathan Beck and Nancy Black of Dover, and Chris Beck of Marydel. He is also survived by two grandsons, Harry Beck of Melbourne, Fla., and PFC Tyler Beck, U.S.M.C. stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was predeceased by parents Harry in 1968 and Minerva in 1996; by his wife, Priscilla Beck in 1967; and by daughter-in-law, Maryann Beck in 2009. A memorial service will be 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, where friends may gather beginning at 3:30 p.m. His remains will be laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna.
