Harry P. Carlisle, Jr., 89
SALISBURY, MD - Harry P. Carlisle, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home in Salisbury, MD., on January 12, 2024. Born on March 24, 1934, in Milford, DE to Harry P. Carlisle, Sr. and Virgie Marie (Walls) Carlisle.
Harry grew up in Felton DE, mowing lawns, delivering groceries, working at the local grocery store and became Delaware's youngest butcher at the age of 16.
Harry was very athletic in high school, lettering in baseball and basketball. He went semi pro in baseball, 2 years with the Mid Del League and 2 years with the Mar Del League. He also bowled on many leagues in Salisbury.
Harry graduated from Felton High School and continued at Goldey Beacom, graduating in 1954. Harry was the first person in a large extended family to pursue any kind of higher education.
Harry began his career at Corporation Trust Company in Wilmington De. Harry then continued through many excursions of different businesses. Most noted was the acquisition of L.W. Gunby Co. This became C. and P. Hardware Co., Inc. where he spent 24 years serving the community. He then opened Creative Irrigation Design and added Invisible Fencing of Delmarva. Through the irrigation company he began working for Tom Shelton at Bordeleau Winery until he retired at the age of 84.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Lana; his daughter, Debbie Smith; stepdaughter, Michele Lane; four grandsons, lan, Lane, Liam and Angus Schultz; a brother Arthur Gene Carlisle; sisters, Marie C. Shultie, Patricia (Richard) Farley; and a niece, Julee (Kyriakos) Tsoukalas. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Barbara Mansfield.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Christ Methodist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. Joel Bieler will be officiating.
