Harry I. Banks

GEORGETOWN - Harry I. Banks, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at home. He was 70. Harry was born in Millsboro, son of the late John Walter and Dorothy Alberta (Williamson) Banks. Harry had worked for Delaware Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in January 2002 as Superintendent of all Sussex County. He enjoyed football and loved rabbit hunting and gardening. He especially loved being a pop-pop and taking his girls for Saturday breakfasts. In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Banks; and a brother, Harvey Banks. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dolly (Smith) Banks; daughter, Linda Johnson and husband Stanley of Millsboro; three granddaughters, Tamara, Bethany and Krista Johnson; a brother, David A. Banks and wife Mary; and sister, Joyce White and husband Gerald, all of Georgetown. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, with visitation Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Harbeson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
