Harold Frederick Blocksom, 76 OAK GROVE - Harold Frederick Blocksom, of Oak Grove, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008, after a short illness in the Genesis Care Center in Seaford. He was 76. Born May 2, 1932, the third child of the late Frederick Harold "Dick" and Viola Blocksom. He received his early education at Blocksom School and later attended Frederick Douglass School, Seaford. Mr. Blocksom worked several jobs, but made Perdue his longest place of employment, where he retired in June of 1976 after an injury. He was happiest being around friends and family, watching his favorite TV shows, and following the in's and outs of his beloved Baltimore Orioles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; brothers, Otho, Warren and William (Bill); and sisters, Marie and Betty. He leaves to cherish his memory long-time companion, Mary Ann Chapman; his brother, Halvin Blocksom (Pauline); and sisters, Doris Jenkins (William), Joanne Gibson, Mary Burton (Nelson), Gail Weal (Timothy), Joyce Bowers, all of Delaware, and Judy Abbott (Tony); sisters-cousins, Ada Works and Edith Evans of Ga.; and a special cousin, Mary Francis Ricketts; an uncle, Robert David Williams (Lola) and an aunt, Ruth Matthews, all of Delaware; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mr. Blocksom walked through this life with little more than a burning desire to simply be a friend to man. His flesh will soon pass away, but thank God, his soul shall live on. We thank and praise God that he had the chance to make his peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday in East Clarence Street Church of God, Seaford, the viewing will be two hours prior to the service. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
