Hancock, 89 DOVER - H. Elizabeth 'Libby' Hancock, of the Methodist Manor House, Seaford formally of Dover, died Sunday, July 22, 2012. Miss Hancock was a native of Dover and graduated from Dover High School in 1940. She attended the University of Delaware for one year and then was employed by the DuPont Company Engineering Department at Louviers Building near Newark for 46 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, Millcreek Hundred, where she had held the offices of Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session, and was a member of many lineage societies. Miss Hancock served as National President and National Treasurer of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; Vice President general, Delaware State Regent, Cooch's Bridge Chapter Regent, and National Chairman of Credentials of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; State President of the National Society of Colonial Wars, and had organized Liberty and Independence Colony of the National Society of New England Women. She was a member of the Historical Societies of Delaware and Salem County, N.J. and the Genealogical Societies of Delaware and Salem County, N.J., and served on the Board of the Friends of the Delaware Archives. She had resided at the Methodist Manor House since 1998 and had served as President of their Council and represented the Manor House on the Board of Trustees of the Peninsula United Methodist Homes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Cariss Hancock and Harold B. Hancock. Miss Hancock is survived by two nieces, Ann H. Cain and her husband Bill of Viola, and Jean H. Horan and her husband Bill of Bluffton, S.C.; sister-in-law, Ada Hancock of Dover; grand-niece, Sue Burchett; and grand-nephew, Duane Harrell both of Harrington. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday July 26, 2012 at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE 19973. Letters of condolence may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
