Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was in Salisbury on Friday, making a stop at Evolution Craft Brewing Co.’s Public House, where customers were offered a free beer in return for receiving a Covid-19 vaccine.
The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce organized the “shot and a beer” event as a way to get younger people vaccinated.
Bill Chambers, the Chamber’s President and CEO, said he heard of “shot and a beer” events in other states and decided to give it a try here. He approached Evo owners John and Tom Knorr, as well as Hogan, who all loved the idea as a way to attract younger residents, some of whom have an aversion to the vaccine.
The mass vaccination site at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center remains open on Tuesdays from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Walk-ins are welcome, but residents also can pre-register at covidvax.maryland.gov or by calling 1-855-MD-GOVAX.
