DOVER—Gov. John Carney signed a proclamation Thursday recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The governor was joined by representatives of the Delaware Alliance Against Sexual Violence; Department of Safety and Homeland Security Secretary Nathaniel McQueen; Department of Education Secretary Dr. Mark Holodick; and Chief Deputy Attorney General Alex Mackler to commemorate the occasion.

Several members of the General Assembly and community advocates were also in attendance for the signing.

This year’s recognition marks the 22nd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout the nation.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity,” which calls on all individuals, communities, organizations and institutions to change themselves and surrounding systems to build racial equity and respect.
